A PRIEST, THE PRECURSOR OF THE LEGEND

Valentine owes all the symbolism of his date (which is almost a worldwide celebration) to a legend: the act of rebellion of a Christian priest back in the third century after Christ. Of that one, the then emperor prohibited that the young people could contract marriage since it considered that the single men were better soldiers.
Faced with what he considered an injustice, the then priest Valentin began to perform marriages behind the law. The trail of the future spouses and cause to raise suspicions among the Roman soldiers were the small cluters of while flowers that the brides secretly tried to hide behind each link. Something that cost him to be imprisoned and later martyred on February 14. Reason why, since then, this day of the year is destined to his name.
